India beat hosts New Zealand in the final ODI played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington by 35 runs to win the match and series 4-1.
After winning the toss, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bat first. Soon the decision turned out sour for tourists as they were 18-4 against yet again top bowling performance of Trent Boult.
Luckily, India recovered by good performance in the middle order by Ambati Rayudu (90), Vijay Shankar (45), a cameo by Kedar Jadhav (34) while Hardik Pandya’s 45 runs off 22 runs changed the momentum in India’s favor.
Note: Visitors learned from their previous game.
India ended 252 all out in 49.5 overs. Matt Henry scalped four wickets while Boult claimed 3 wickets.
New Zealand once again fell prey to Mohd. Shami and wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Kedar too brought the breakthrough (dismissed Kane Williamson) and a perfect run out by MS Dhoni of James Neesham (44 runs) drifted the game towards India towards the end.
New Zealand were all out for 217 in 44.1 overs. Y Chahal scalped 3 wickets, Shami and Hardik Pandya claimed 2 wickets each.
Rayudu earned Man of the Match title and Mohd. Shami named Man of the series award (9 wickets in 4 matches).
