Men in blue today defeated Blackcaps by 7 wickets in do or die match held at Eden Park, Auckland to level the series 1-1.
Hosts New Zealand opted to bat first and managed 158/8 in their 50 overs. Colin De Grandhomme scored a maiden half-century and Ross Taylor scored 42 before getting run out.
Krunal Pandya gave early blows, ending with 4-0-28-3. Khaleel Ahmed scalped two wickets.
In reply, India chased down the target in 18.5 overs. Rishabh Pant scored unbeaten 40 runs and MS Dhoni ended 20 not out. Shikhar Dhawan contributed 30 runs.
Rohit Sharma hit 50 runs and became the highest run scorer (2287) in T20I cricket going past Martin Guptill (2272 runs).
K Pandya won Man of the Match award.
It is 11th straight do or die win for India men in T20Is.
Third T20I will be held on Feb 10 at Hamilton.
India women disappoint
Earlier today NZ women played India won where visitors ended up losing the match by 4 wickets and series 2-0.
NZ opted to bowl. India women managed 135-6.
Jemimah Rodriguez added 72 runs and Smriti Mandhana scored 36 runs while the rest of the team failed to reach double figures.
Chasing 136 runs to win, NZ women won the match off the last ball. Suzie Bates scored 62 runs and awarded player of the Match.
Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy scalped two wickets each.
Women’s team too will play the last T20I at Hamilton on Sunday and possibly will try to avoid a whitewash.
