Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes 1st Indian bowler who took 5 wickets in all three format of the game
He claimed 5 for in the match to restrict South Africa from chasing the target.
Shikhar Dhawan continues his peerless form in limited overs format for another half-century.
The format changed but misery continues for the host in limited overs. Visitors once again shine brightly in the 1st T20. This is the most clinical and balanced performance from India. Their all departments clicked and outclassed proteas in the shorter format of the game. The match is considered to be tight until the 16th overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar turned the game completely away from the host with his 3 wickets in one over.
India played astonishingly in the belter.Despite losing the toss visitors showed the intent with the bat from the first over. Rohit stroked 18 runs in that over of Dane Paterson to set the tempo of their innings. Shikhar Dhawan took full advantage of his form and batting friendly wicket. He completed his half-century in just 27 balls. Virat Kohli took a big call to promote comeback man Suresh Raina on his batting position of number 3. However, he could not able to take advantage of that and lose his wicket for just 15 runs. Virat Kohli came to the pitch at number 4. But it was not his day he got out at 26 runs.
South Africa made a lot of errors in the fielding. They dropped the catch of Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli. Even though both of then failed to take advantage of the 2nd life and lost their wicket by adding few runs in their tally. But it considered as the important aspect of the match as it cost South Africa 20-30 runs. If they grabbed that opportunity then they can restrict India below 200 runs mark.
Shikhar Dhawan stands firm at the other end till 14 overs. He got out for 72 runs in just 39 balls. Sage was set for the lower order to take India to the 220 plus total. But South African fast bowlers made a remarkable comeback. Especially Dane Paterson who bowled superb yorkers in the death overs. Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni, and Hardik Pandya find hard to score runs in the last 4 overs. Somehow India reached the total of 203 runs to set the target of 204 to win for South Africa.
India bowlers learned from South African fast bowlers mistakes. Protest bowlers bowled too many short balls at the start of India innings. But India bowlers used the experience. Bhuvneshwar bowled with a lot of variation in his 1st spell. The knuckleball was the wicket talking delivery for him in IPL. He used it very often in this match and it worked superbly for him as he took 2 wickets out of 5 from a knuckle ball. Bumrah ends his magical figure with (4-24-5)
However Most expensive Indian buy Jaydev Unadkat was a bit expensive at the start. But he made a good comeback in the 2nd spell by taking 1 wicket. Bumrah was good as always he sticks to his basics and remains economical in his 4 overs spell.
India bowlers did a fantastic job in the batting wicket. Reeza Hendricks’s 70 off 50 balls and Farhaan Behardien looked good from the South African side. The Duo was set to take game deep but Indian bowlers dent their plans by striking wickets at regular intervals.
South Africa tried hard to chase the target but they finished 28 short of India’s total to give the visitors 1-0 lead in 3 matches. South Africa ends their total 175 for 9 in 20 overs.
Brief score: IND 203/5 (20.0 Ovs)RSA 175/9 (20.0 Ovs)
