South Africa defeated Sri Lanka in the second ODI match by 4 wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match ODI series at Dambulla on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 244 runs for the loss of eight in their 50 overs. SA bowlers provided early breakthroughs as SL were 56 for the loss three wickets at one stage. But then the skipper Angelo Mathews scored an unbeaten 79 runs while Niroshan Dickwella contributed 69 runs.
Lungi Ngidi and Andile Phehlukwayo shared 3 wickets each.
In reply, South Africa played well as the tourists chased down the total in the 43rd over. Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Cock scored 87 runs while skipper Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla contributed 49 and 43 runs respectively as the Proteas won by 4 wickets.
Akila Dananjaya scalped three wickets.
Quinton De Cock was Man of the Match.
