Team India made a comeback after lagging behind 0-2 in the five-match test series to go 2-1 after winning the third test by 203 runs against England on Day 5 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
Indian bowlers just took 17 balls to end the day as England continued at 311/9 in the morning session. They were eventually bowled out at 317 runs in the second innings when Ashwin bowled a carrom ball that gloved Anderson in the way and the extra bounce took it to Rahane at first slip.
Note: England were chasing a highly improbable target of 521 runs to win the test match.
Indian bowlers have continued to do well as they have done so far in the series despite a few partnerships that have troubled them in each of first three test innings.
This time around, Batsman joined the party as India scored 329 and 352/7 in their first and second innings. Virat Kohli scored 97 and 103 runs while Vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane 81 & 29 also looked in good touch. Moreover, Cheteswar Pujara scored 72 runs that will boost his confidence ahead of the fourth test.
Note: Indian openers Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul provided 50 runs opening partnership twice after failing in earlier test matches. Murali Vijay didn’t play the third test while Dinesh Karthik also misses out to be in the frame of things for remaining tests.
Indian bowlers dismissed England for 161 & 317. Skipper Virat Kohli was Man of the Match.
The fourth test will be played at Southampton on August 30 (after a gap of more than a week).
