Bangladesh defeated West Indies by 12 runs in the second T20I to level the ODI series 1-1 at Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday.
The hosts won the toss and opted to bowl first. After receiving early blows Bangladesh came out on top to score 171 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs.
Tamim Iqbal scored 74 runs off just 44 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes while Skipper, Shakib Al Hasan contributed 60 runs off 38 balls that included 9 fours and 1 six.
Ashley Nurse and Keemo Paul shared two wickets each while Andre Russell scalped one wicket.
In reply, West Indies continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. They managed 159/9 in their 20 overs. Andre Fletcher and Rovman Powell scored 43 runs each.
Mustafizur Rahman and Nazmul Islam shared 3 wickets each while Shakib notched two wickets.
Tamim Iqbal who earned Man of the match said, ” I decided to be patient at the start and then accelerate later on.”
Note: He shared a 90 runs part’ship with Shakib Al Hasan for the fourth wicket.
“Shakib really played an important hand in support and his contribution was crucial, Tamim added.”
Bangladesh skipper, Shakib Al Hasan who had a good game with both the bat and the bowl said, “We had a chat after the last match and we had that belief that we can win against Windies. The crowd was a massive factor, I felt we were playing in Bangladesh. Hopefully, they will support us tomorrow too. All the bowlers bowled brilliantly. It was a great team effort from us in the end.”
On the other counterpart, West Indies skipper said, “We were a bit casual in the field and that is where the match turned. I was confident of chasing this total down. There were too many lapses in the field and Bangladesh came out trump. Tomorrow is important and hopefully, we will bring our top game.”
The third and final T20I will be held at the same venue later today.
