Mushfiqur Rahim breathtaking century and Tamim Iqbal spirit help Bangladesh to crush Sri Lanka by a big margin of 137 runs.

Bangladesh started Asia Cup 2018 on a high note, Despite being down and out after the initial overs of the match as Bangladesh were two wickets down on 1 run and Tamim Iqbal to suffered a wrist injury which forced him to get retired hurt. Bangladesh was tottering on that stage and seemed like the match would be over for Bengal tigers. However, Bangladesh Wicket Keeper Mushfiqur Rahim steps up along with Mohammad Mithun to revive their side from embarrassment to stitch the valuable and match-defining partnership of 132 runs for the 3rd wicket. Mithun got out on 63 to gave Sri Lanka another opening to bowl-out Bangladesh under 200 runs. Meanwhile, Rahim continues to score runs and stand tall from one end.

Rahim does not get the much support from other and but he never dropped his scoring rate and reach his best hundred so far in his career. At one stage Bangladesh was 229-9 and it looks like Bangladesh innings would be over as Tamim Iqbal can’t bat due to a wrist injury. But Tamim did unexpectable as he stunned everyone in the ground by walking in the pitch with plaster in his left hand. His spirit and determination towards his team were saluted by everyone. Bangladesh opener batted with one hand and defended successfully the last ball of the over. Rahim took his opportunity and flourished in the last 3 overs of his side innings. Rahim added 32 runs in 16 balls along with Tammin Iqbal, Where Iqbal contribution was zero. But his presence boosts confidence on  Mushfiqur Rahim to play fearless cricket in the death overs.

Sri Lanka failed to take advantage of golden start provided by Lasith Malinga

Malinga made his comeback in style as he picked 4 wickets by giving just 23 runs in 10 overs. Veteran fast bowled gain his best form in the first match of the tournament. However, his contribution goes vain as his side received humiliating defeat against Bangladesh. Malinga didn’t get much support from other bowlers and the evidence of that Bangladesh post 261 runs on the board. Mathews captaincy was also very disappointing in the middle overs as he allowed Bangladesh to score runs freely.

Note:  Mushfiqur Rahim adjudged player of the match award

Brief score:
