Afghanistan on Monday defeated Ireland by 16 runs in a rain-shortened first T20I match held at Bready.
Ireland won the toss and opted to bowl. Batting first, Afghanistan scored 160 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 18 overs. Hazratullah Zazai top scored with 74 runs while Skipper Ashghar Afghan and Mohammad Shahzad contributed 31 runs and 29 runs respectively.
Tyrone Kane and Joshua Little scalped two wickets each.
In reply, Ireland didn’t start well as wickets continued to fell at regular intervals. The hosts could only manage 144/9. Captain, Gary Wilson top scored with 34 runs while Paul Stirling (27), George Dockrell (22*) and Simi Singh (20) chipped in with their 20s.
Rashid Khan picked 3 wickets while Aftab Alam and Mujeeb Ur Rahman shared two wickets each.
The next match will be held today.
