Prithvi Shaw was ruled out of the first test after he injured his left ankle in the outfield while playing against Cricket Australia XI in a practice game, said a BCCI release.

The youngster lost his balance while trying to take a catch and fell over while fielding at deep mid-wicket boundary. The medical staff ran towards him and he was carried from the field.

The 19-year-old had scored 66 runs in 1st innings and have hit fifties against New Zealand on India A tour.

“Shaw underwent scans this morning and the reports revealed a lateral ligament injury. Shaw will be unavailable for the first Test against Australia in Adelaide. He will undergo an intensive rehabilitation program to hasten the recovery and be available for selection at the earliest,” BCCI stated.

The first test is scheduled to start at Alediade Oval on December 6.

Shaw’s absence could open door for Murali Vijay.
