India A skipper Shreyas Iyer says that not getting a place in team India national side despite consistent performances affects his game.

“It is really tough to be patient. When you perform consistently, get runs and then don’t get into the team, it runs into your mind. And, when you face quality bowling at top level, your performance keeps fluctuating. So, you need to keep yourself focused and, as I said, it affects you at times,” Iyer told reporters in Bengaluru.

The 23-year-old last batsman plays limited overs matches for team India and has been in and out of the national side. He last appeared in February this year.

In IPL this year, he led Delhi Daredevils and recently he led team India to a 1-0 test series over South Africa A.

“I really love the captaincy role. Whenever I get this role, my character and attitude totally changes, and I see to it that I try and get the best out of myself as well as the team in pressure situations,” said Iyer.
