India skipper Virat Kohli who scored 200 runs in the first test jumped to places in the latest ICC Test Rankings among batsman.
His scores of 149 and 51 runs in the first and second innings helped him jump 5 points above to No.1 spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings on Sunday. The skipper came out of all odds to improve his previous record in just one game.
Despite Kohli’s strong performance, India failed to register a win in the 1st test.
Other Indians who have reached the No.1 spot includes Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Virendra Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dilip Vengsarkar.
Note: At 934 points, Kohli is the highest-ranked India batsman on all-time in the points table. He was placed second since 2015.
Steve Smith slipped to No.2. He is currently serving his one year ban in International Cricket.
However, the skipper seemed least happy of his performance as India lost the match by 31 runs.
“When the focus is on the larger picture, these things don’t matter. Back in the day, I used to think about playing in different conditions, different countries, but when you become captain it’s about taking our team across the line,” Kohli quoted to the media as saying.
