Indian Premier League (IPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has appointed former South Africa cricketer and current batting coach as their mentor and head coach.

The World Cup-winning coach for team India, Gary replaces Daniel Vettori who was appointed as head coach of RCB in 2013 and sacked last week.

RCB has performed poorly in last two seasons managing just nine wins to be placed eighth and sixth respectively.

Earlier this year, Kirsten was appointed batting coach of RCB.

I had the privilege of coaching with the RCB team last season under head coach Daniel Vettori and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I look forward to continuing the journey with RCB and doing my best to help the franchise reach its potential.

“I want to thank the team management for considering me in a leadership position with the franchise and I look forward to a successful few years,” Kirsten said on his new role as per a report from RCB official website.

Kirsten has played 101 tests and 185 ODIs for South Africa.
