Former Australia Captain, Steve Waugh hailed team India skipper as the premier batsman in world cricket at the moment.

In an Interview, the 53-year-old said Kohli has the best technique compared to any other player at the moment. “He has got the game to survive anywhere, I think he’s got the best technique of anyone in world cricket.”

The 1999 World Cup winning captain said, “He (Kohli) and AB de Villiers have got the best techniques, and AB de Villiers is not playing Test cricket so that him the stand out player.”

Kohli claimed the No.1 spot in the ICC test rankings after his top performance against England in the first test but it came in a losing cause. He scored 200 runs to surpass the banned Australia cricketer Steve Smith.

“I think Steve Smith is probably the hungriest batsman but he’s obviously not playing for 12 months, so Kohli really is the premier batsman in world cricket.”

“And he likes the big occasion. Like Lara and Tendulkar and Richards and Javed Miandad, and all the great batsmen, they want the big occasion and that brings out the best in their cricket,” Waugh added.
