The minions Afghanistan turned into a mature side to beat Sri Lanka for the first time in ODI and qualified in the top 4 rounds.

Afghanistan defeated Sri Lanka by 91 runs in the 3rd Match of the tournament

Afghanistan started their campaign of Asia cup on a very high note as they won the 1st Match against SriLanka to qualify for the next round for the first time in the Asia Cup. Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat first, Batting is always been their weak link in cricket. But this time around they have changed the scenarios as their batsman bats well to post 250 runs target for the sluggish Sri Lankan team. Rahmat Shah was the top scorer for Afghanistan with his 72 runs. He got good support from other Afghan batsmen like Janat (45) and Shahidi (37) which helped Afghanistan to post a competitive total of 249 runs on the board. Thisara Perera took 5 wicket haul for Sri Lanka in his 10 overs.

However, Sri Lanka disappoints in their fielding as they dropped many catches in the match. Which is highly unlike with the Sri Lanka fielding as they had always regarded as the best fielding side of Asia. Batting is the other factor of concern for Sri Lanka as they got bowled out under 150 runs in the match against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, things didn’t change much against Afghanistan as Island nation were bowled out for 158 runs to receive their 2nd consecutive loss in Asia cup 2018. Sri Lanka batting crumbled once again in the tournament. Afghanistan spinners dominated Sri Lankan batting as they picked 6 wickets between them, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 2 wickets each to hunt SriLankan batsman in the regular intervals of their innings.

Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been qualified into top 4 rounds from Group A

Note: Rahmat Shah won Player of the match award
