At the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad, India team skipper Virat Kohli thrashed tourists with his phenomenal knock of 94 runs off just 54 balls to win India with eight balls to spare. Kohli looked scratchy in the first half of the innings. He tried many cross-batted powerful shots but West Indies bowlers took away pace of the ball to make Kohli struggle to time the ball and he looked frustrated many times.
KL Rahul slams the fifty
India openers Rohit Sharma and Lokesh Rahul started innings to chase a huge target of 208 runs. After Initial struggle deputy Rohit got out early in the innings. As skipper Virat was struggling to time the ball, Rahul took responsibility to score runs. He started with a bang and completed his fifty in 37 balls. They stitched 100 runs partnership to build the foundation of the chase.KL Rahul got out when he tried to hit in the air to increase the run-rate.KL Rahul slammed 62 runs off just 40 balls consisting of five boundaries and four giant sixes.
Virat’s renaissance dismantles West Indies
After Rahul departed, skipper Virat uses his straight bat shot to hit gorgeous backfoot lofted drive for six on the delivery of Jason Holder. The new batsman on the crease, Rishab Pant smashed the first ball out of the park. Sheldon Cottrell pinned down pant for only 18 runs off just 9 balls as Holder took his the catch over the long-off. Cottrell celebrated with his usual salute after the wicket. Kohli continued to entertain the crowd with his wristy classic shots over the boundary.
The battle between Kohli and pacer Kesrick Williams was one of the highlights of the game. Williams came in the way of batsmen many times, which Kohli didn’t like it at all. Kohli smashed him gigantic six and repeat “Notebook” celebration of pacer which he had done in the previous tour when he bagged wicket of Kohli. Virat never shied to show his emotions. He plundered 94 runs off just 54 balls with the help of six fours and six mammoth sixes.
West Indian carnage sets up a huge target
Earlier at start of match Indian skipper, Virat won the toss and chose ball first. West Indian opener Evin Lewis smacked Indian bowlers out of the park to make flashy 40 runs off just 17 balls. After openers departed, Shimron Hetmyer plundered 56 runs off 41 balls with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. Skipper Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder provided some cracking shots later in the innings to set big total in front of the team India. Yujvendra Chahal took 2 wickets for 36 runs.
