India played Kedar Jadhav and Dinesh Karthik in the middle-order with MS Dhoni and showed a bit sign of their regular scheme of things in the Asia Cup.
Kedar showed why he deserves to make it to the playing XI with his all-around skills. He continues to do well with the ball when India is desperate to pick wickets. The part-timer created trouble for Pakistan when the arch-rivals first met in the Asia Cup, Moreover, he took the important wicket of centurion Ahmed Shahzad in his last outing.
Note: His batting wasn’t much tested as he batted in just the last game.
Dinesh Karthik, On the other hand, has experience when it comes to being part of the international frame of things for a long period. He played some key knocks in IPL this year that helped his franchise win most of the games. He won the Nidahas final nail-biter last ball finish earlier this year. It seems that DK is in a state of mind of actual belongingness to the playing XI, he has also looked sharp on the field.
So what about KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, and Ambati Rayudu then?
For now, it seems clear that KL Rahul will most probably get the chance only among the openers if Shikhar Dhawan or Rohit Sharma fails, injures or rested.
Manish Pandey future chances might be affected after he managed just 8 runs in his only outing in the tournament. Although Pandey has made his presence count on the field with his sharp catching and fielding ability despite not being part of the playing XI. The team management must give him another chance.
Ambati Rayudu might not play once captain Kohli will be back in the side. However, he could be tested by team India in the middle order at some point of time but have to use those rare chances if he sees himself in the playing XI for the next year’ s World Cup.
Could Rishabh Pant feature in the squad for the next series?
It could be possible and it is all dependent on the selection committee if they think they should continue with Manish Pandey or look forward to bringing the youngster Rishabh Pant who has a tendency to play big shots at ease with high strike rate.
What’s the latest on Hardik Pandya?
Once declared fit, Pandya is likely to find his place in the playing XI at ease and then it would rather be difficult to play Ravindra Jadeja in the XI. But, If Jadeja plays he could end up axing Yuzi Chahal’s place in the XI.
Note: Jadeja was brought in the 15-member squad as a replacement in place of Axar Patel [whose exclusion from the side at this time around poses a real threat to his international career].
